PRIDE of Polk County
"It’s given me good friends that I know I can trust
and something to believe in." - Logan (member)

The PRIDE of Polk County Team spends the
majority of its time using the performing arts to
spread a drug-free message. Our 25 member
team performs all over the state of Florida. The
PRIDE of Polk County Team meets up every
other Saturday from 8:45 AM until 12:00 PM. We
focus our time on the four pillars of PRIDE which
include: Drug Education, Community Service,
Drug-Free Activities, and Community Outreach.
For the first pillar, Drug Education, our team
holds three Elementary Leadership trainings and
two middle school and high school weekend
retreats. Our goal for all of the trainings is to
increase the knowledge and awareness of the
dangers of drugs, for each of the youth who
attend.
The second pillar gives us the opportunity to
give back to our community. For Community
Service, our main project is Adopt-a-Road
through Keep Polk County Beautiful. We clean
up a two mile span of road by a local high
school every two months. We just recently
adopted Karen Seigel Academy and will be
partnering with them on many projects in the
upcoming year.
Drug-Free Activities, the third pillar, is one of our
team's favorite. Each month our team plans an
activity that is either inexpensive or doesn't cost
anything and invite friends to come join in. Some
of the activities we have done include:
Rock-n-Bowl (bowling with music), movie night,
flick-n-float (movie and floating in a pool), and
swimming parties. These activities are important
to our team because it gives us the chance to
all be together with an alternative activity to
alcohol and other drugs.
The last pillar of PRIDE is Community Outreach.
Each year our team likes to kick-off Red Ribbon
Week, Just Say No Week, and Great American
Smoke-Out Day. A few of the counties we
have had the honor of performing in are Polk,
Seminole, Pinellas, Highlands, Hardee, and
Orange.
